Firstly : the roadworks have now been a part of our life “down South” for some 10 days and we can honestly say that, outside of the morning and evening rush hours and weekend pressure times, the delays are minimal if you come along the Main Road and this is the case at 18h00/19h00 when most people are heading to KBT. So don’t be put off and come and join us soon !!!
Much has been written and said about the upgrade of the Main Road from Atlantic Road, Muizenberg to Clovelly Road, Fish Hoek which is about to start. A lot has been pure speculation and exaggeration. What is set out here is as near to being 100% correct as we can get it and the aim is to guide you in getting to KBT as easily and as quickly as possible.
These are the relevant facts as we have them ~
1. Phase 1 of the roadworks starts on Monday, March 10 [the day after the Argus Cycle race];
2. The section of the Main affected by Phase 1 is that from about the Muizenberg Police Station to about Dalebrook Pool;
3. Sections of the road about 1 km long will be lifted, the services under the road renewed and the road surface replaced/renewed;
4. A Traffic Stop/Go system will regulate traffic through the areas being worked on;
5. Phase 1 will last 15 – 18 months;
6. It is not clear whether work will continue at night but the Stop/Go system will operate at night.
All of this will add some time to the journey time to KBT and our suggestion is this ~
[a] GO UP ONTO BOYES DRIVE AT EITHER LAKESIDE OR MUIZENBERG ***;
[b] FROM BOYES DRIVE, COME BACK DOWN TO THE MAIN ROAD IN CLAIRVAUX ROAD;
[c] TURN LEFT INTO THE MAIN ROAD;
[d] COME ALONG THE MAIN ROAD TO KBT AND PARK IN THE VICINITY OR THE NEARBY PARKING AREA AS NORMAL.
*** : since writing this the Westlake link between the M3 [Blue Route] and Boyes Drive has opened. At the Westlake end of the M3, turn RIGHT and head towards Ou Kaapse Weg but at the first robot, feed left at the sign saying “STONEHURST”, go left at the circle and keep going until you meet Boyes Drive at a T-junction – turn right into Boyes Drive.
