A physical comedy written and performed by Gaetan Schmid and directed by Rob Murray that premiered to great success and acclaim at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown 2006.
Following years of research, Doctor Emiritus [an eccentric Eastern European professor] is now able to expose all there is to know concerning the origins and history of the English Language. Using his own limited vocab supplemented by his physical clowning skills, the good Doctor is able to communicate with his audience. And please don’t be put off by the Prof’s ill-fitted costume and small suitcase – his exuberance will blow your socks off! Return to the classroom for a last laugh and to rediscover the actual meaning of everyday words.
Isn’t a Hamburger a person from Hamburg ? And why is a crayfish not a fish and a hot dog definitively NOT a hot dog ? Find the answers to these and other perplexing questions in “THE DOG’S BOLLOCKS”. Starting with a short summary of the history of language the Prof moves on to dissect the very comical and sometimes absurd idiosyncrasies and etymological quirks of English. This takes the audience on a whistle-stop tour through the bizarre mix of communication in our country and champions the very real need to talk to each other.
“The show is a witty and erudite piece which makes an interesting social comment. Schmid looks at various linguistic high-jinks – word origins, prefixes, turns of phrase and the like – with hilarious results.” CUE 2006
“Fast paced and very funny, but not for the lazy Festino –pay attention or you’ll miss most of it.” CUE ONE-LINER 2006
